{Sewing} - Dresses, dresses and more dresses!

{Makayla, Sophia and Mia...pillowcase dress couture.}
I recently had the chance to visit with these three lovely little ladies.  Two are my cousins' daughters and the one on the right is my adorable little niece, Mia.   As you can see the two on the left are wearing my new favorite thing to sew; pillowcase dresses!  These are easy to make, totally adorable, grow/adjust with the child and can be turned into a top once they are too short to wear as a dress!  I can just imagine how cute they'd look with a pair of leggings!

Don't feel left out Mia, Aunt Mimi has made you two of your very own and you should be getting them in the mail very soon, see?
I can't decide which one I love more!  I LOVE the apples and pears fabric, but I'm not as happy with the contrasting striped fabric as I am with the floral print and it's contrasting fabric.  They compliment each other perfectly.  Here's one more I just made for our little friend Emerson...  Like myself, Emmy's momma is a fan of damask, so I knew this fabric would be perfect for her.  (Surprise, Emmy!):

Overdue Updates

I must admit, I'm sort of bummed that I don't blog as much as I would like to now that I'm juggling work, babies, dinner, sewing (yes, sewing comes before blogging ;), cleaning, photography, etc., etc., etc., This is a great creative outlet for me; I know I'm not good at writing, but I enjoy typing my thoughts out for you all (all 11 of my lovely followers!) to read. Here are a few things that I've been up to and that are going on right now...
{Me being busy busy busy, driving somewhere or another.}
First, lots of new babies are here, and some more are on the way! This means, lots of sewing & crafting are going on in my craft room. I've made several bibs and burpcloth sets, my first diaper cake, decorated many mini nursery frames (inspired by TomKat Studio frames), and sewed pillowcase dresses galore for the new babies, the big sisters and even for a few bithday gifts. This all takes place after 8:30pm, when the boys are asleep, and my kitchen is clean. Lots of late nights are spent sewing, wish I could do more of this in the daylight. If I look cross-eyed, you now know why.
{baby frames, big sister/little sister dresses, diaper cake, and future dresses}
I took a cooking class last week with my girlfriend Vanessa at Delish and have since been inspired in the kitchen (above and beyond fancy cupcakes). The class was on Thai food, which was awesome (except for the repulsive smell of the fish sauce). Can't ever have too much lime and cilantro in my meals! I also have an advantage with locating ethnic ingredients, as I visit every ethnic market from here to Binghamton for my job. If Wegmans doesn't have it, I know where to find it. I've made some Thai and Mexican themed meals since the class, but I have come up with some delicious non-ethnic concoctions, as well. Mmmm... I'm getting hungry!
Next, I'm planning on hosting a very small ladies brunch this Saturday (*crossing my fingers for warm, sunny weather*).  Having people in my backyard means I must garden, or at least weed my gardens.  We've been in our new house for almost two years now.  We moved in August 2008, so there was no planting, just transplanting what plants I brought with me.  I just couldn't part with some of them... and if I had known that my old garden would look as terrible and overgrown as it does now (we just moved down the street), I would have dug EVERYTHING up and brought it with me ;(  Last summer, my gardening consisted of buying 2 hanging baskets, but what do you expect from a girl 7+ months pregnant with twins?   Anyway, Dan has been busy roto-tilling and replenishing the dirt.  I'm in charge of the weeding, and eventual planting...and there are already a bunch of nice perennials to work with.  Hopefully I can get a lot done throughout this summer, including a veggie garden.  Gonna work hard in the yard every night this week, and looking forward to hanging out with the girls Saturday, putting my feet up and enjoying a mimosa or two ;)

{Some of my discount Martha brunch decor from Big Lots}
The boys are 8 and a half months old already!  I can't believe it!  I have been planning  their first birthday party in my head and on paper for a few months now and even have a few things for it already.  It'll be small (family only), but hopefully adorable and memorable.  I'm going with a sock monkey theme of browns, reds and whites, with maybe a few bananas thrown in to the mix, too!  I'm going to try to design everything myself, from the invites to the decor. When am I going to do all this, you ask?  I have no idea.
{my goofballs, 8 months and counting}
Lastly, Dan is turning 30 this June! (Yeah, I know, I'm robbing the cradle...)  I'm not sure if I'll have a big bash for him, but I was thinking of at least doing The Thirty Day's of Dan.... June has 30 days, so why not give my hubby a little something each day of the birthday month of his 30th year?  If you have any ideas for me, let me know... I've got like 2, so I need about 28 more ;)    ...and don't worry about me blowing the surprise.  You think my husband reads his wife's blog? *hmpf...*
I *might* have some big news in the next week or so.  I'm keeping my fingers, toes and eyes (thanks to the late night sewing) crossed that the news actually happens, and that I can handle the consequences the news may bring, even though my heart wants this something to happen in a very bad way!   I know this probably makes very little sense right now, but I'll let you know what it is if and when something happens!

My First Mothers Day

Today I celebrated my very first Mothers Day.  It was a a fabulous first, complete with a few gifts from Coach (my hubby is THE BEST!)   In the morning, we drove to Rochester to have brunch with my brother Joe's family and then came back home and had Dan's parents and grandma (the boy's great grandma!) over for an awesome steak dinner, complete with a black forest cake from Butterwood.  A-MAZ-ING!!

Happy Mothers Day to my mommy (ILYMI!), my wonderful mother-in-law Dottie,  Mrs. Peters (who was always like a 2nd mom to me), Missy, Samantha and every other amazing mom I know.  You all make the job look so easy!  Thank you for all you do!  I'm so happy to finally be a part of the club!
